2020 QUEZETTE STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Quezette Stakes is a Group 3 race run under Set Weight and Penalty conditions for three year old fillies at Caulfield conducted by the Melbourne Racing Club.

The Quezette Stakes is run over 1100m since 2006 after being 1200m before that.

It was first run in 1992 and was won by Minsky Lass. The Quezette Stakes became a Group 3 race in 2013.

The Quezette Stakes has been at Caulfield since 2002 but has been held occasionally at Sandown.

The Quezette Stakes equivalent race for the colts and geldings, the Vain Stakes is run on the same card.

It is named after a good filly from the 1960s.

The Quezette Stakes is used as the beginning of many three year olds 1000 Guineas and Oaks campaigns.

I Am A Star won the Myer Classic to end the prep after taking the Quezette in 2016.

Top filly Alinghi won the race first up and then later won the 1000 Guineas in 2004.

Grand filly Sunlight would end up winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes, Newmarket Hcp and William Reid at G1 level later that 2018/19 season.

The 2020 Quezette Stakes was run for prizemoney of $160,000.

Notable winners of the Quezette Stakes include Exhilarates (2019), Sunlight (2018), I Am A Star (2016), Satin Shoes (2011), Bel Mer (2007), Alinghi (2004), Innovation Girl (2002) and Tristalove (1993).

The 2019 Quezette Stakes was won by Exhilarates from Absolute Flirt and Pin Sec.
