The Les Bridge-trained sprinter contested an 800m Open Trial against the Kris Lees-trained trio of Tactical Advantage, Spirit Of Valor and Asharani.

Under the guidance of regular rider Kerrin McEvoy, Classique Legend settled outside leader Spirit Of Valor before drawing clear the last furlong under minimal urgings to win the heat by 2.3 lengths.

"That was good," McEvoy said following the trial.

"It was only a small field but we were able to jump out and sit on the outside of a horse. He was nice and happy, we improved a bit up the running and could do some nice work without asking for a full effort.

"He has enjoyed his day out. I think it was beneficial to give him the trip away and have a workout here at Newcastle. It was lovely ground to gallop on and I'm pleased with how he pulled up."

Classique Legend at this stage will likely resume in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick on September 19 and contest The Everest third up via the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 3.
