Connections Trying To Stay Grounded With Farnan

3 minute read

Co-trainer Adrian Bott is attempting not to look too far beyond the Golden Rose with Farnan despite the obvious temptation of an Everest tilt with the boom colt.

Farnan impressed winning his 1050m trial heat at Randwick on Tuesday, leading throughout and putting a decisive margin on the chasing pack.

The Golden Slipper winner will resume in the Run To The Rose on September 12 before his main early spring goal of the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).

“We want to have him ready there first up,” Bott said. “He has a huge amount of value attached to him so it is important when he steps out he is up to the mark and that is also important for the remainder of his preparation.”

“In order to get him to that point, you want to take full advantage of these trials. He had an easy enough time in his first hitout.”

“Second trial we just wanted to test him that little bit more and make sure he is fully wound up for his first up run.”

The colt is currently an $11 equal third favourite for the TAB Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 17 although is yet to secure a slot for the $15million race.

2019 Everest winner Yes Yes Yes went into the lucrative sprint third run from a spell after running second in both the Run To The Rose and the Golden Rose.

“We are yet to make any firm commitment that way yet,” Bott said.

“It is certainly firmly on our radar but we just want to get over our initial targets first.”

“It would be fantastic to see him in the race, it really would. It’s a race that’s certainly captured everyone’s imagination very quickly. Just in the small amount of times it has been run we’ve seen how well advantaged some of the three-year-olds appear to be and they’ve performed accordingly.

“It would be really interesting taking a colt with his profile to that particular race. I think it would be an excellent opportunity.”
