Some of the best three-year-olds in training continue their path to major Spring races this Saturday as Group racing moves to Rosehill Gardens for San Domenico Stakes Day.
The Group 3 $160,000 TAB San Domenico Stakes has attracted a select field and a strong betting race, and one which will further shape markets for the Group 1 $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose.
Anders ($3.10 TAB) for trainers Ciaron Maher & David Eustace and champion Sydney jockey James Mcdonald heads the market from the unbeaten colt Peltzer ($3.90 TAB) for training partners Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou and jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Close in betting is another unbeaten colt Doubtland ($4 TAB) for Hawkes Racing, ridden by Brenton Avdulla, and the John Thompson trained Mamaragan ($4.20 TAB) with Glen Boss aboard.
These four colts are all also in the top bracket of the TAB market for the $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose, to be run at Rosehill Gardens on 26 September.
The Group 3 De Bortoli Wines Ming Dynasty this Saturday is another pathway race for horses heading towards the Golden Rose or Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes later in the Sydney spring.
The Chris Waller trained Overlord to be ridden by James McDonald is the early $2.50 TAB favourite ahead of the Ryan/Alexiou stable's Kumasi ($5.50 TAB) with jockey Brenton Avdulla.
Four other horses next in betting are all at $7.50 with TAB in another strong field of three-year-olds.
A third Group race this Saturday – the Group 3 $160,000 Iron Jack Premiers Cup – features a capacity field of 18 runners, and another pathway race for Sydney's biggest Spring staying feature, the Group 1 $750,000 Heineken Metropolitan at Royal Randwick.
The highly promising Kris Lees trained Mugatoo is the warm $2.25 TAB favourite in the Iron Jack Premiers Cup for jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Taikomochi for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and jockey Adam Hyeronimus is next in betting at $7 TAB, ahead of a host of other runners priced between $9 and $16 with TAB.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said Saturday's meeting continued some of the best racing in Australia ahead of the Sydney Spring Carnival.
"The three-year-olds again feature this Saturday for another high quality race in the TAB San Domenico," Mr Ross said.
"Last year's San Domenico proved a strong pointer for the De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose and looks like having a major bearing again this year."
The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Good 4 on Thursday afternoon with fine weather forecast for the coming days.
