Gytrash will head straight to The Everest after defeating Everest slot holder Nature Strip in the Concorde Stakes at Randwick.
Gytrash will head straight to the $17m TAB Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 17th after the Gordon Richards trained sprinter's 1 1/2L win over fellow Everest slot holder Nature Strip in the Group 3 TAB Concorde Stakes over 1000m at Randwick on Saturday.
After the race Richards was not sure if he would give Gytrash another race before The Everest, but after the weekend to consider his options he has decided to send the Lope De Vega five-year-old straight to the rich invitation race.
"I tossed around a few ideas after his win on the weekend," Richards said.
"I initially had planned to run him in a fortnight in The Shorts or there is another race in four weeks but ultimately I am comfortable going straight to the Everest without another run.
"He will have a couple of easy weeks in the water walker and then we will ramp him once again. His record fresh is outstanding and he will be ready for the Grand Final come October 17th," he said.
First up Gytrash has a record of four wins from six starts and second up two wins and two placings from four starts.
Gytrash under Jason Collett was just short of Redzel's track record of 55.73 when stopping the clock at 55.81 on the Good 4 track on Saturday and coming home in 11.39 for the final 200m over Nature Strip's 11.90. He covered the final 600m in his first race right-handed and at Randwick in 32.40 with Nature Strip at 32.92.
Gytrash, the winner of the Group 1 Lightning Stakes over 1000m at Flemington in February, will race in the Inglis slot in The Everest.TAB have Gytrash on the second line of their market at $6.00 with their own slot runner, Nature Strip, the favourite at $3.00.
