The weights have been released for the G1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick on 3 October with Racing NSW Handicappers offering some explanations for them.

A total of 94 nominations have been weighed for the 155th running of The TAB (Group 1) Epsom Handicap (1600m) to be staged at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 3rd October 2020.

This year's edition of The TAB (Group 1) Epsom Handicap (1600m) will be run with a 50.0kg minimum weight and a 48.0kg minimum weight for three-year-olds, with a total prizemoney purse of $1,000,000.

The honour of joint topweights has been given to three-time Group 1 winners Fierce Impact (Jpn) and Avilius (GB) who have been asked to carry 58.0kg.

Fierce Impact (Jpn) is the winner of the 2019 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), the 2019 Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) and the 2020 Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m).

Avilius (GB) is the winner of the 2019 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m), the 2019 Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) and the 2019 Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m).

Next in line on 57.5kg is Dreamforce, a winner of the 2020 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and the 2019 and 2020 Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m).

Other notable nominations are the 2019 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) reigning champion Kolding (NZ) with 56.5kg. Kolding (NZ) also won the inaugural $7.5 million The Golden Eagle (1500m) in 2019.

The recent Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes winner (1600m) Mister Sea Wolf (Ire) will carry 56.0kg.

The highest weighted mare is four-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant (NZ) who has been allocated 57.5kg. Verry Elleegant (NZ) won the 2019 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), the 2019 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m), the 2020 Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) and the 2020 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m).

Dual Group 1-winning mare Con Te Partiro (USA) will carry 55.5kg.

Dreamforce with 57.5kg is exempt from the ballot due to his win in the 2020 edition of the Group 2 Tramway Handicap (1400m) along with Wild Planet on 53.0kg who won the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

There are 10 three-year-olds nominated with the 2020 Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) winner Farnan allocated 50.5kg and the 2020 Group 1 Blue Diamond (1200m) winner Tagaloa asked to carry 48.5kg - all others have been allocated 48.0kg, the minimum weight for 3yos.
