Trainer Peter Moody hopes the closure of one door on a Group 1 feature will open opportunities for others in his team as the spring carnival progresses.

Moody was forced to scratch Glenfiddich from the $2 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on Saturday after the colt was found to be suffering an entrapped epiglottis.

While the prognosis is good and there is the possibility the colt could return for races at Flemington during Cup week, Moody was left deflated by the news as he considered Glenfiddich an excellent chance in Saturday's race.

"There is a slight chance we could take him to the Coolmore Stud Stakes," Moody told RSN927.

"It's the only Group 1 race available for three-year-olds and, or, the Darley Sprint Classic on the final day would be a remote possibly.

"But we're not worried about that at the moment, we just want to get this sorted and we'll be a bit clearer in a week's time.

"We've got all the autumn ahead of us.

"He's a genuine Group 1 horse and we'll pick our mark in the autumn whether it's the Australian or Randwick Guineas or George Ryder or All-Aged Stakes, or something like that, because he's got one of those in him for sure."

Moody has other spring hopes and is looking at getting import Nickajack Cave into the $8 million Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3.

Nickajack Cave was one of 29 international horses to arrive in Melbourne late last week for the spring carnival and is currently undergoing quarantine at Werribee.

Moody decided against paying up for Nickajack Cave in the $5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on Saturday week to concentrate on the Flemington feature.

"This bloke might be the flag-bearer now," Moody told RSN927.

"One door closes and another opens.

"He's done that well I would suggest we will be doing a bit of work with him as it will be 12 weeks without a run going into the Melbourne Cup.

"We'll let him guide us, but he's in good condition but I would say he'll be doing a bit of work, possibly later this week."

Moody said the $400,000 Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) on October 21 was an option if he thought Nickajack Cave required a run.

"We'll see what attrition happens in the next week or 10 days and make a decision," Moody said.

Moody is hopeful In Good Health can win her way into the Caulfield Cup by taking out the $300,000 Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) on Saturday.

The winner of Saturday's race gains a ballot exemption into the Caulfield Cup.

In Good Health has drawn barrier two on Saturday after drawing poorly in her previous two outings.

"From two drastic gates at her last two she's won and run fourth to one of the Caulfield Cup favourites," Moody said.

"She's in good order."
