Santiago withdrawn from the Melbourne Cup.

Aidan O'Brien Irish raider Santiago is the second horse from the stable to be scratched from a feature spring engagement having been withdrawn from the Melbourne Cup. 

Racing Victoria stewards advised on Saturday morning that Santiago was out of the $8 million Group 1 race on November 3. 

Chief steward Robert Cram said the stable had not happy with the northern hemisphere-bred three-year-old in the past couple of days in quarantine at TAB International Horse Centre at Werribee and had decided to not press on towards a Cup start. 

Santiago, along with 28 international travellers, finished quarantine on Friday having arrived in Melbourne on October 2. 

The O'Brien-trained Wichita suffered a hind leg fracture earlier in the week ruling him out of the spring. 

Despite having Santiago out of Melbourne Cup contention, the O'Brien stable still has Tiger Moth at the head of betting at $6, with Russian Camelot and Surprise Baby sharing the second line at $8 with TAB. 

The O'Brien stable also has Armory and Magic Wand heading towards the $5 million Group 1 Cox Plate at The Valley next Saturday.
