2020 RED ROSES STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Red Roses Stakes is a Group 3 race run under Set Weights and Penalty conditions for three year old fillies at Flemington conducted by the Victoria Racing Club.

The Red Roses Stakes is run over 1100m. It was first run in 1983 and was won by Nouvelle Star.

The race was over 1200m from inception until 2014 when it became 1100m.

The Red Roses Stakes was a Listed Race until 2014 then Group 3.

It has had multiple name changes but was originally run as the Red Roses Stakes.

The Red Roses Stakes has been shown to produce future G1 winners and not just in fillies and mares races.

Sisstar was the winner in 2019. Sisstar's sister is Sunlight who had won several famous straight track races at Flemington including the G1 Newmarket and Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The Red Roses Stakes was worth $200,000 in 2020 reduced due to coronavirus cutbacks.
