"He was running around in races in weaker races (in Adelaide) paying $1.50 so we thought we'd try for something harder and it came off.

"It worked out exactly as we wanted. We told Craig to ride him just like he did on Kelampasa on Saturday, ride him like he's in a race on his own.

"It's really exciting to win races during Melbourne Cup week. It's great to be performing well but it's a pity that we can't be there."

"We're not sure what could be next. We'll just get him back home first."

On Surprise Baby and the draw on Saturday night: "I was making sure there was no number in front of that number seven which usually happens. His trainer Paul Preusker is really excited and is really looking forward to the race. I know 12 months ago it looked colourful with all the fans here. Unfortunately they're not here but all the well-wishes I have received through my team, through social media and through my family, I just hope that this race galvinses the country through this pandemic."
