Winning Jockey: Hugh Bowman
"I wasn't confident of winning as I had a lot of weight. It was a really testing race. The pace was right on from the outset. I was really comfortable where I was in the run but when I started to build into, he didn't let down like a horse that was going to win, but he kept grinding to the line and when the others started to feel the pinch he was there to capitalise.
"I knew I had hit the front, but I saw Craig (Williams) come late on the inside. We were a bit far about, but to be honest, I was just concentrating on my horse, keeping him in the rhythm.
"I remember years and years ago watching the greys race on television and hoping one day I could compete in it and I've won it here today for my good friend John."
Great win for John O'Shea: "We've been good friends for a long time. I know James (McDonald) was meant to ride it but I'm lucky enough to have picked it up. John was a bit bullish when he rang me about the horse.
"He said 'the horse usually wears earmuffs, I've taken them off, he's first-up, he's been set for the race and I think he'll run very well'.
"When John speaks in those terms, win, lose or draw, the horses always perform."
"James McDonald was meant to ride this horse today and I was lucky enough to pick up the ride today. I was very impressed when I saw him walking around the yard."
