After 25 years, Chow hits a purple patch

Warrnambool trainer Peter Chow is hoping his career-best winning sequence will stretch again to Flemington, this time with his mare Pres De Toi.

Chow has enjoyed the best week of his 25-year training career with Paul's Regret winning at Flemington last Saturday and Jazz Star successful at Caulfield on Wednesday.

He has last-start Moonee Valley runner-up Pres De Toi trying to make it three city winners in a week in the Merry Christmas VRC Members Plate at Flemington on Saturday.

"It really doesn't get any better. Two city winners in a week and hopefully we can add another one," Chow said.

To put Chow's success into perspective, he had trained six city winners before last Saturday and Paul's Regret was his first at Flemington.

Chow has a team of 10 horses in work at Warrnambool.

"The horses are fit and well and are having some luck and are in the right grade," Chow said.

"Look at Paul's Regret. Everything worked out perfectly. She didn't have to go around a horse and then look at her runs for the past year where she's always had little luck."

Chow doesn't understand why Pres De Toi, who finished second to Ocean's Thirteen at The Valley, is $15 with TAB fixed odds compared to her last-start conqueror who is a $4.20 equal favourite.

"We had to cover ground and I think Pres De Toi will be much better suited on the bigger track at Flemington, which suits her run-on style of racing," Chow said.

Chow will again take advantage of Melissa Julius' three kilogram claim aboard Pres De Toi, as he has done at the mare's past two starts.

"She knows him well. It's not as if I'm putting a kid on her. She's 29 and has done a lot of riding and I get to use her claim," Chow said.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
