Ryan Maloney produced a brilliant ride to win the SKY Racing Quality Handicap at Doomben.
Ryan Maloney and Tony Gollan continued to build upon their emerging partnership after Get Stuck In led throughout to land the SKY Racing Quality Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
After stepping up to the 2000m for the first time in his career last start, Ryan Maloney produced a brilliant front-running ride, which enabled Get Stuck in to run home in a slick 33.5 seconds for his last 600m.
"It was our intention to lead with him and his second go at 2000m, he is fit and he switched off beautiful," Maloney said.
"He is not a horse full of confidence, so coming to the corner he is not the sort of horse you want to ask them to go straight away.
"We let them come to me and every time they did he kept on kicking.
"He was there to be beaten but he just didn't lie down."
Elated with the win, Gollan was quick to turn his attention to The Shoot Out over 2200m at Eagle Farm on January 2, with Get Stuck In a candidate for a wildcard into the Magic Millions Subzero (2400m) on January 16 if he is successful in that race.
"I think he is really enjoying the tempo of the races and we look forward to heading to the Shoot Out where hopefully he can get an entry to the Magic Millions," Gollan said.
"He's such a little trier this horse, he isn't much to look at but he will never let you down.
Get Stuck In is a son of the now deceased former top class middle distance import Lucas Cranach, but up until this campaign, Gollan had not tried him at middle distances.
"This preparation we tried to stay at a mile which we had been doing, but felt they were just a bit too sharp for him and they were getting the better of him as he was going through the grades," Gollan said.
"Since we stepped him out to this trip he has been great.
"I thought he took a while to settle last start coming out of the straight, but today with no speed and coming out of that run, we were happy to take our time getting to the front and we were confident he would back it down for Ryan when we asked him to."
