Chris Parnham proved he’s a stayer with his first Group Two TABtouch Perth Cup win, a dream he’s held his whole life.
With nerves of steel Parnham went to the line aboard Neufbosc to finish first in a tough battle and the lighter weight, ahead of Truly Great for second and Midnight Blue for third.
Three-time Perth Cup-winning jockey Peter Hall and Ihtsahymn, a dual Darwin Cup winner, were honoured in leading out the TABtouch Perth Cup field for the iconic feature race. The $400,000 Group Two TABtouch-Perth Cup did not disappoint with the Parnham duo, Trainer and father Neville Parnham and Jockey and son Chris Parnham partnering for the win with Neufbosc.
The final day of the Ascot Racing Carnival was a sold out event with 10,000 eager racegoers flocking to Ascot Racecourse to celebrate this year's TABtouch Perth Cup, with all day entertainment, live racing and iconic horseplay.
Perth Racing Managing Director, Professor John Yovich AM, said, "As the final date in the Ascot Racing Carnival, TABtouch Perth Cup Day is a very popular and highly enjoyable day and I'd like to thank our Members and patrons for joining us. All of our ticketed events and restaurants sold out well in advance of the raceday including all restaurants, Champagne Oasis, Sanctuary, Enclosure on the Deck and Tentland."
"We've had a fantastic Ascot Racing Carnival despite challenges this year with COVID-19 restrictions for event venues such as ours and we have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback received from patrons and Members enjoying the experiences on offer across the carnival." Professor Yovich added.
While celebrating the end of the spring racing carnival and the beginning of a fresh new year was a priority, fashion was also a key focus of the day with patrons embracing bright colours in hot pinks, whites and yellows, paired for the summer weather. Guests enjoyed the iconic Cup Day atmosphere with a roving samba band and stilt walkers, complimentary pamper lounge and live fashion illustrations. The popular Tentland event attracted 1,000 guests, mingling in giant trackside tepees with all-day entertainment and refreshing summer-inspired food and beverages.
Perth Racing now gears up for summer horseplay and sales into the Autumn Racing Carnival at Ascot Racecourse commencing from 27 March 2021. For more information about upcoming racedays, visit: https://www.perthracing.com.au
