Triple Ace given an opportunity to shine over fences

3 minute read

Triple Ace is likely to be given the chance to further extend his picket fence at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The talented young sprinter is unbeaten this campaign and is an acceptor for the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m), along with stablemate Frozen In Time .

Josh Parr again partners Triple Ace, whilst Jason Collett has the mount on Frozen In Time.

Kris Lees is at the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions sales and races, and has deferred a final decision on a start until just before the 7.30am deadline on Saturday morning as the three-year-old would be on a quick back-up, having made a successful city debut at Canterbury last Friday night.

"At this stage I'd say Triple Ace will run," Lees said this afternoon.

"He has done well since Canterbury, so the signs are good.

"It looks another suitable race for him, especially whilst he is in such great form."

Triple Ace  is chasing five straight wins this campaign. He won twice over 900m at Newcastle in October before a short break and then added a Hawkesbury Benchmark 68 Handicap (900m) to his tally on December 13.

Parr rode the colt for the first time when he tenaciously overhauled Shadow Bridge, despite conceding him 1.5kg, in a Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury a week ago.

Whilst Triple Ace is the stable pick, Lees also feels the year older Frozen In Time can run a cheeky race.

Dual acceptor Juventus will contest the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1500m) rather than the stronger Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m) at the Randwick meeting.

And Lees has taken advantage of form apprentice Chris Williams' 2kg claim by booking him for the ride, lessening Juventus' weight to 57kg.

Juventus was placed at both metropolitan starts this preparation before finishing sixth (with 59.5kg) to Dream Circle over 1400m at Randwick on December 26.

He drew awkwardly that day, and has a more favorable alley this time along with a sizeable drop in weight.

"Juventus is racing well and is never far away but needs a breakthrough," Lees said. "It's been a while since he has won."

High Opinion (Chris Williams) and Loveisili (Collett) will represent the stable in the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m), but Lees feels both are likely to take improvement from this race.

Think Free (Parr) is an acceptor for the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1500m), but is likely to run instead at Canterbury tomorrow night in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1550m).

The mare has now raced three times since a lengthy break, and her trainer feels she has been a bit disappointing, hence his decision to put blinkers on her.

"Hopefully they will spark her into regaining her best form," Lees said.
