Blazejowski returns to form in John Dillon Stakes

3 minute read

After a disappointing late spring and then struggling during an early summer campaign, Blazejowski has appreciated a track with some give in it with a return to winning form at Caulfield on Tuesday.

Blazejowski  took out the Listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) under a beautifully judged ride by Melbourne Cup winning jockey Jye McNeil.

Hitting the front with 200m to run, Blazejowski ($17) held off a determined Brave Song ($14) by 1-¼ lengths with the $2.90 favourite Viral a length away third.

Blazejowski was successful at Flemington in the Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes at Flemington last February but had failed to recapture that form in four runs since.

Trainer Greg Eurell said Blazejowki's form was frustrating as the gelding's work at home had been excellent.

"He's been very frustrating this whole prep and it's been hard work," Eurell said.

"He's been terrific at home, his work has been right up to speed, but he's been coming to the races and just doing a few things wrong.

"You always think that when things aren't going quite right that you change this or change that, but we basically kept to the same recipe that has always worked for him.

"I think what probably made it more frustrating was that at home his work and general wellbeing has been absolutely spot on.

"If he brought that to the races (more often) like he did today, well he would have been competing a lot better."

Meanwhile flying Adelaide filly All Banter has graduated to stakes company with an all-the-way win in the Listed W J Admas Stakes (1000m).

Under the guidance of Craig Williams, All Banter, the $3.10 favourite, held off a late bid by Causeway Girl ($17) to score by a half-head with Riding The Wave ($6.50) a further 1-¾ lengths off in third place.

Williams said All Banter, trained by Richard Jolly and his daughter Chantelle, would derive a lot of benefit from her victory on Tuesday, her first run since scoring at The Valley in November.

"This was her first toughest test and she's come through it in flying colours," Williams said.

"She's a really quick girl. She's been able to win at Moonee Valley, she's been able to win at Caulfield.

"It shows her versatility but she is purely a short-course horse and I'm sure the training partnership will place her really well like they have for her whole career."

Richard Jolly said the stable was planning to set the filly for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 20.
