Dosh prevails in fillies heat of Blue Diamond Preview

3 minute read

Trainer Grahame Begg expects plenty of improvement to come from Dosh after the filly maintained her unbeaten record with success in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for fillies at Caulfield on Tuesday.

Dosh is being aimed at the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 20, a race Begg won with Written By in 2018.

Jumping smartly from the inside barrier, Dosh ($5.50) was well-rated in front by Jordan Childs before running out a half-length winner from Tayla's Moment ($12) with the $1.65 favourite Frost Flowers a half-head away third.

Dosh ran the 1000m journey in 58.17 seconds, a half-second slower that General Beau recorded in taking out the colts and geldings division while TAB shortened the filly from $13 into $11 for the Blue Diamond Stakes following the win.

Begg said Dosh will head to the Blue Diamond on February 20 without another run adding that she was among the best two-year-olds he has trained, including Written By.

"He won the Prelude and she's won a Preview but this year unfortunately the way the races are structured she won't have another run going into the Blue Diamond," Begg said.

"She'll only have the one run and we'll try and give her a jump out somewhere in between, but she's all racehorse.

"I don't think the 1200 metres will be an issue and it's uncharted territory for all of them.

"She has a fair bit of improvement and she'll come out of the race today and bounce out of that.

"She only had the one jump out going into it and she's a massive doer in the stable. She eats as much as a five or six-year-old gelding.

"She gave two kilos away, she paid the penalty for winning a Group 3 at her first start which is not easy to do."

Childs, who rode Written By in his Blue Diamond victory, said Dosh was up to winning the race.

"I really like her," Childs said.

"I've done a lot of gallops and most of her main work this time in and she's been going very well.

"She gives me a nice feel on the way up and is only going to improve with racing.

"She's got better each time and I've noticed this time in that she's just improved all round."
