Tide's Turning For Warwick's Boss

3 minute read

She was an expensive yearling, has been a source of major frustration for her owners and trainer Justin Warwick, has been plagued by a raft of injuries, but Bosnipp may have turned the corner after her last start performance at Pinjarra.

At her sixth race start the Snippetson mare finally delivered on her promise and broke her maiden tag in style when she cleared away to win by an easy 2 ¼ lengths from Spicy Dancer over 1000m on January 14.

Justin Warwick is optimistic the four-year-old can back it up and record consecutive wins in her Ascot debut on Wednesday when she tackles the Salinger Handicap (1000m).

"It's been a long road with this girl, she has shown a lot of promise along the way through," Warwick told Tabradio.

"For whatever reason she has never been able to get to the winner's circle.

"If a bug went past her she caught it and if something could go wrong she was amongst it.

"She's had a bone chip removed, many injuries, a lot that she has inflicted on herself.

"But we seem to be in the right space at the moment.

"She didn't beat a lot the other day, but she did win and that was promising for us.

"She's jumping out of her skin and has a good draw.

"We paid a lot of money for her and being a major share holder she has been very disappointing.

"But we might get ourselves out of trouble if she keeps improving."

Bosnipp has drawn barrier one and will be ridden by Warwick's daughter, Lucy.

In an open race, Bosnipp is rated a $5 chance with TABtouchHot Technique holds $3.30 market lead. Lording is also at $5.

Meanwhile Dan Morton believes Shirl's Dream can make a successful debut for his stable in the Amelia Park Lodge Maiden (1400m).

The Artie Schiller gelding comes to Morton after two runs for Bunbury trainer Holly Locke.

The three-year-old has not raced since undergoing a throat operation following his previous run last July.

Morton said Shirl's Dream was showing positive signs.

"Holly Locke gave him to us in great shape and she had a fair opinion of him," Morton said on Tabradio.

"He's fitted in and I've liked what I've seen so far.

"Since we've had him he has been perfect.

"If I didn't know he had any other issues I would be going in today (Wednesday) fairly confident.

"I do think he will run a cheeky race today."
