While trainer Martin Allan believes Hot Mix can cause a Breeders’ Classic (1400m) boil over at Bunbury, he concedes it will be hard to defeat Magical Dream in Sunday’s Listed feature.
Hot Mix has flashed big potential in her maiden campaign with two wins and two third placings from four starts, but faces a big test to knock over Magical Dream.
She got to within 1.5 lengths of doing that last start when after an impeded run in the straight she ran a creditable third.
Carrying the Oakland Park colours made famous by Northerly, It was Hot Mix's second straight placing after she launched her career in December.
A daughter of Street Boss, she got off to a flying start by winning on debut at Pinjarra before coming to town and recording another good win at Ascot as the heavily backed favourite.
The Misty Valley Thoroughbreds Greenfields Lodge Breeders Classic has attracted eight acceptors with Hox Mix drawn in barrier one. Jade Mcnaught takes the ride.
Magical Dream, a Belgravia Stakes winner last October, will start from the second-widest gate. William Pike retains the mount.
Allan is hopeful Hot Mix can turn the tables on the Bob Peters'-owned Magical Dream.
"I was happy with her last run and she is going super," Allan told The Races WA.
"She's had a terrific first campaign and couldn't have done much more.
"I think she is capable of finishing first three and I would be rapt if she did.
"She has drawn perfectly and will be box seating throughout.
"But Bob's horses are very hard to beat aren't they?
"I think we have to be ahead of Magical Dream in running and pinch a break to have any chance of beating her.
"But it won't be a one-horse race, Darren's (McAuliffe) two go well, No Surrender and Solaia.
"Solaia has proven to be a pretty classy animal."
Hot Mix can potentially end the weekend on a high for Allan, who has several top chances at Ascot on Saturday.
Allan will saddle up debutant Talkaboutyou, Flow in the Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) and last-start winner Time To Sizzle.
"Time To Sizzle has trained on well and has improved fitness wise from her first-up win," Allan said.
"I think this is an easier field than she met last time.
"I think she is my best of the day.
"But I have a lot of time for Talkaboutyou.
"I'm just am careful of getting too excited by two-year-olds."
