Harrison Takes Cautious Approach to Pinjarra Classic

3 minute read

David Harrison is both confident and cautious about Gemma’s Son landing the second leg of a feature double at Pinjarra on Sunday.

Coming out of his Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) victory on February 6, Gemma's Son tackles the Listed TABtouch-Pinjarra Classic (1300m).

"I have a little trepidation if he is up to them," David Harrison told The Races WA.

"He's jumping into open company and it's not going to be easy.

"I'm not sure he is coming out of a strong three-year-old race.

"But he has drawn well and I can't fault his work.

"I'm confident he will run well, there's just a doubt if I've thrown him into the deep end."

Gemma's Son carries 54kg in the Pinjarra Classic, 2.5kg less than his Magic Millions 3YO Trophy success.

The son of Snippetson has drawn barrier one and will have the services of jockey Jason Brown for the first time.

"Jason is a very experienced rider," Harrison said.

"And he is a very good judge of pace."

Brown replaces Paul Harvey who can't make Gemma's Son's weight in the Pinjarra Classic.

Harvey has been the mainstay on Gemma's Son, riding the colt to four of his six career wins.

They include the Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) and the Listed Perth Stakes (1100m).

Gemma's Son forms the strongest of Harrison's three-pronged attack in the Pinjarra Classic.

He also has Media Baron and the consistent Cryptic Love.

Media Baron resumes after a disappointing Ascot carnival where he failed to get anywhere near his best.

He races first-up with no trial and jumps from barrier 11. Kyra Yuill takes the ride.

"It's a nice starting point for him," Harrison said.

"I'm still not sure if he is a sprinter or stayer.

"I would like to see him attack the line."

Cryptic Love is on the quick back-up after running third to Platoon in last Saturday's Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m).

"She has been very good to us and has earned nearly half a million dollars," Harrison said.

"It would be nice if she can get black type to her name."

Jason Whiting picks up the mount on Cryptic Love. The My Admiration mare has gate four.
