Pingrup Race Club And Community TAB to Fundraise For Local school

3 minute read

Pingrup Race Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for the Pingrup Primary School P&C at the annual Pingrup Races on Saturday 20 March.

Pingrup Race Club Secretary Alan Smith said the partnership with Community TAB is a springboard for the community.

"We are in a small regional location with a small number of residents and few opportunities to fundraise with outside sources, therefore this opportunity utilises the funds contributed by outside residents and multiples them," Alan said.

"It is a fantastic way to support our small local groups that keep our regional communities alive, and it makes the world of difference, with our limited fundraising opportunities, it makes fundraising a little easier for the community."

"The Pingrup race day is an annual event which has met once a year since 1932, with the running of six races throughout the day starting off around 1pm, while our club boasts a traditional outside bar, fashions on the field, live music, camping and two-up."

"The P&C is an active and vibrant group of parents who aim to improve the school facilities and opportunities for the local children who attend the Primary school, with a major on-going project of the redevelopment and upgrade of the playground into a more nature-based area."

Community TAB will match funds raised on the day up to $2,000.

RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA's race clubs based in regional communities.

"RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate," Jeff said.

"Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to Pingrup Primary School P&C is just one of many community organisations that will be supported as part of the program."

The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $700,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
