Dongara Irwin Race Club And Community TAB to Fundraise For Local Community Groups

3 minute read

Dongara Irwin Race Club and Community TAB have joined forces to raise funds for the Dongara Denison Lions Club, Dongara District High School and Peacock’s Boxing Gym at their Easter races on Saturday 3 April.

Dongara Irwin Race Club Secretary/Treasurer Janette Gooch said Community TAB has been involved with the race club since 2015.

"I think the Community TAB program is a fantastic way to inject some of the profits from our race day back into our local community," Janette said.

"Our Race Day is held on Easter Saturday 3rd April 2021 with 3,000 people in attendance and entertainment a plenty with Fashions of the Field, foot races, live music, delicious food stalls, and a segregated family area with free activities for the kids!"

Funds raised on the day will support the community groups and their role in the local community.

The Dongara Denison Lions Club will be fundraising to help the local emergency organisations with purchasing equipment.

Peacock's Boxing Gym will use the funds to support the development of youth boxing in Geraldton, particularly female boxing.

Dongara District High School will use funds to support the Senior Primary, Year 6 students, to attend a team building and leadership camp.

Community TAB will match funds raised on the day up to $2,000.

RWWA Chair Jeff Ovens said the positive effects of the Community TAB program have been extensive for regional WA, with 48 of WA's race clubs based in regional communities.

"RWWA recognises that race clubs across WA play an important role in their community, contributing both economically and socially, with partnerships like these an example of the strong connection race clubs have within the communities in which they operate," Jeff said.

"Community TAB is proud to play our part in giving back to the community, and our donation to these organisations are just few of many community organisations that will be supported as part of the program."

The Community TAB dollar matching program has been in effect from early 2015 and has since raised over $700,000 for not-for-profit organisations around WA through partnerships with local race clubs.
