Look For Mudlarks If Forecast Rain Arrives

3 minute read

With rain forecast for Launceston, it may pay to seek out which horses prefer rain-affected going when assessing form for the night meeting on Wednesday night.

The form horses that fall into that category are I'm A Floozy in race six, the benchmark 60 over 1100 metres and Boom Dot Com in race seven, a benchmark 66 over 1400m.

I'm a Floozy, prepared at Longford by Angela Brakey, comes off an impressive all-the-way win over 1200m on Launceston Cup day while Glenn Stevenson's Boom Dot Com could not have been more impressive in winning a benchmark 60 over 1400m in Launceston last week.

Boom Dot Com has done a great job for Stevenson since arriving from Victoria last year, with her latest win her fourth from 10 outings for the stable.

"Boom Dot Com grows another leg in the wet, so I won't mind if the track is very soft or heavy," Stevenson said.

"The mare has been racing extra well in good to soft 5 conditions but a heavy 8 only enhances her chances."

Stevenson also expects his last-start winner Gregorian Chant to make an impact in the Winning Edge Presentations Open Handicap (1600m) despite her racing well out of her grade.

"Gregorian Chant won last week and that was overdue and while she has a habit of waiting for them when she hits the front, this race should offer a fairly strong tempo and that will suit her.

"I haven't got a horse that works better than her on the training track and hopefully she can convert that to another win on Wednesday night."

Stevenson also produces Brahma Armour for the first time since arriving from the Victorian sable of Matthew Brown and he goes around in the class one over 1200m.

"Brahma Armour probably needs a bit further, but we opted to settle on this race on Wednesday night to see where he is at.

"If it rains, he will handle the conditions, but we will know more about him after this run."

Brahma Armour began his career in Queensland with Bevan Laming where he broke his maiden status over 1300m at the Gold Coast in November 2019, but he had only two more starts for that stable before being transferred to Brown's camp.
