2021 KARRAKATTA PLATE - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Karrakatta Plate is a Group 2 race for two year olds conducted by Perth Racing (formerly the West Australian Turf Club) at Ascot.

The Karrakatta Plate was first run in 1902 and was won by San Toy.

The Karrakatta Plate is run over 1200m under Set Weights conditions.

It was a G1 but was downgraded to G2 from 1999 onwards.

It was run over five furlongs until 1980 when it was upped in journey to the current distance. The race has also changed it dates pre and post New Year previously.

In 2021 the Karrakatta Plate was worth $500,000.

Notable winners of the Karrakatta Plate include Whispering Brook (2016), Redwoldt (2004), Bomber Bill (1998), Alabama Whirly (1996), Umah (1996), Jacks Or Better (1994), Umatilla (1990), Highpak (1989), Burgess Queen (1976) and La Trice (1967).

The 2020 Karrakatta Plate was won by Ima Single Man from Watch Me Dance and Dark Assault.
