The Star Kingdom Stakes was first run in 1979 and is run under quality handicap conditions with a maximum topweight of 61kg.

The Star Kingdom Stakes is named in honour of the imported stallion who was the five times leading sire in Australia and sired the first five Golden Slipper Stakes winners.

The Star Kingdom Stakes has been run at Rosehill since its inception in 1979 with the exception of 2008 when it was run at Canterbury.

The Star Kingdom Stakes was a Listed Race from 1979 to 1987. It has been Group 3 since 1988. It was run as the Sebring Stakes from 2010-2013.
