Another G1 day at Rosehill features some important stats to help find a winner.

Tancred Stakes G1 (2400m 3yo+ WFA)

• First Running: 1963 (won by Maidenhead).
• Multiple Winners: Octagonal (1996, 1997), Tie The Knot (1999, 2000).
• Other Notable Winners: Tails (1972), Apollo Eleven (1973), Hyperno (1978), Kingston Town (1980), Bonecrusher (1986), Beau Zam (1988), Our Poetic Prince (1989), Sydeston (1990), Might And Power (1998), Ethereal (2002), Makybe Diva (2005), Eremein (2006), Hartnell (2015), Jameka (2017), Almandin (2018), Avilius (2019).
• Winner of this race is exempt from ballot for the 2021 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the 2021 Sydney Cup.
• Fillies & Mares: There have been 10 mare winners with Verry Elleegant the most recent in 2020.
• 3yos: There have been 11 x 3yo winners – most recent Fiveandahalfstar (2013) but before that it was Grand Zulu in 2004. No 3yo filly has won.
• Lead Ups: Two main races are the best form guide – it's the Ranvet Stakes or the Australian Cup. In the last 20 years, 10 times the winner has come through the Ranvet Stakes and 7 times the Australian Cup.
• Tancred Stakes/Queen Elizabeth Stakes double – Tails (1972), Apollo Eleven (1973), Shivaree (1979), My Blue Denim (1981), Prince Majestic (1982), Our Poetic Prince (1989), Sydeston (1990), Might And Power (1998), Eremein (2006).
• Since the race became WFA, only Kingston Town (1980) and Tie The Knot (1999) have done the Tancred/Sydney Cup double.
• Internationally trained horses have run in the Tancred - Beau Zam defeated Highland Chieftain, Vaguely Pleasant and Le Glorieux in 1988. Our Poetic Prince beat home Top Class in 1989 while Sydeston had Mountain Kingdom and Highland Chieftain in his wake in 1990. In 2015 Hartnell had a great duel with the Japanese runner To The World.
• In 2000, Tie The Knot beat Arena and Showella in the Ranvet Stakes and then a fortnight later Tie The Knot beat Arena and Showella in the Tancred.
• Almandin became the fifth winner of the Melbourne Cup to also win the Tancred - Hyperno won it before winning at Flemington but Makybe Diva, Ethereal and Might And Power were successful afterwards.
• Five of the last eight winners had had classic success previous to winning their Tancred Stakes – those entered here are Angel Of Truth, Miami Bound and Toffee Tongue.
• Melody Belle has 14 G1 wins to her name but her only runs beyond 2000m were at 2040m in the NZ Spring Classic.
• Last Cox Plate winner (same season) to win the Tancred – Octagonal 1995/96 (as a 3yo).

• The winner of this race is exempt from ballot for the 2021 ATC Oaks.
• Lead Ups: Form has come from races like the Coolmore Classic and the Kembla Grange Classic. However the Phar Lap Stakes is also a factor.
• Vinery Stud Stakes/Australian Oaks double - Sheraco (1982), Research (1989), Alcove (1994), Danendri (1997), Serenade Rose (2006), Heavenly Glow (2008), Verry Elleegant (2019).
• VRC Oaks has been a reference for many years. From 1989, Research, Slight Chance, Northwood Plume, Saleous, Special Harmony, Hollow Bullet, Serenade Rose, Miss Finland, Faint Perfume, Mosheen all did the double.
• Miss Finland won the Golden Slipper and then this race in consecutive years becoming the only horse to achieve that.
• Research won the 1989 edition and then took the AJC Derby and the AJC Oaks all within the space of 11 days.
• It was a good edition in 2020 as Shout The Bar would go on to win the Empire Rose Stks in the Spring and runner up Probabeel would take the Epsom Hcp and a Futurity Stakes.
• Last filly to be trained in NZ when she won was Sixty Seconds in 2002.

• That means the last 4 winners won the Derby on a one week back up.

Emancipation Stakes G2 (1500m 3yo+ F&M SW&P)

• First Running: 1985 (won by Aspirations).
• Notable Winners: Sea Pictures, Ice Cream Sundae, Romanee Conti, Staging, Miss Zoe, Perfect Promise, Hot Danish, Sacred Choice, Skyerush, Catkins, Zanbagh, Prompt Response, Invincible Gem.
• Winner of this race is exempt from ballot for the 2021 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
• Named after an all-time great mare of the track who won a Doncaster Mile among other features.
• In a strange twist, recent years has seen back to back winners of the race. Skyerush won 2012/2013, Catkins won 2014/2015 and Zanbagh won 2016/2017.
• Last filly to win: Sworn To Secrecy (2011). Only 2 fillies in 20 years – the other was the champ Hot Danish.

Doncaster Prelude G3 (1500m 3yo+ Quality)

• First Running: 2010 (won by Brilliant Light). Previously run as the Royal Parma Stakes.
• Notable Winners: Eastern Classic, Card Shark, Livistona Lane, Cobbora, Buzzoff, Adam, Final Fantasy, Defier, My Kingdom Of Fife, Skyerush, Weary, Excess Knowledge.
• Winner of this race is exempt from ballot and penalty for the 2021 Doncaster Mile.
• Doncaster Prelude/Doncaster Mile double - Nil
• In his first run after joining Chris Waller from England, My Kingdom Of Fife won this race at $151 in 2011.
• Last two winners have carried big weights.
• James McDonald chases 4 wins in the last 6 years aboard Buffalo River.
