The scratching of So Si Bon from the Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield has gifted his stablemate Biometric a start in the Group 3 race on Saturday.

And NSW-based rider Blaike McDougall, who was booked for So Si Bon, gets the ride on Biometric.

An imported galloper, Biometric is yet to win in seven Australian starts after a successful career in the UK that netted three wins from seven outings.

Tom Dabernig , who prepares Biometric in partnership with Ben Hayes, said Biometric had been unlucky in Australia, but was a galloper that has a breathing issue.

At his last start, Biometric finished second-last in a benchmark 84 grade race over 1600m at Sandown on March 3.

However, at his previous start he was beaten less than two-and-a-half lengths when fourth behind Best Of Days in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) on February 6.

"He's got a little bit of a breathing issue so we've brought him back to 1400 metres, which I think will help," Dabernig said.

"He's found himself in a tough race though. There's a heap of speed but he has run well at Caulfield before, so hopefully we can bury him away and he can do something.

"He is a horse that has ability and you never know on the minimum weight what he could do."

Dabernig said it was the owners call to start So Si Bon in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

"He's drawn barrier seven and Mark Zahra rides and he's got a good record on him," Dabernig said.

"There's a view we may back up into the Doncaster (on Saturday week) with him if he runs well, but if he doesn't, he could wait two weeks for the VOBIS Gold Mile at Caulfield on April 17."
