The father and daughter training partnership of Tony and Maddy Sears hope Sydney cast-off Dis Dah Wun can prove she’s up to a Stakes race during the TAB Queensland Racing Carnival when she makes her city debut at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Dis Dah Wun takes on her own sex in the Benchmark 72 Handicap over 1200 metres and will be ridden by apprentice Leah Kilner.
The mare was originally trained in Sydney by Team Hawkes and is unbeaten in four Queensland starts for the Sears family.
The daughter of Dissident won her first start for the Sears stable in a maiden at Toowoomba last October and then backed up her victory with two more wins at Ipswich in November.
The four-year-old returned from a break, strolling to an easy win over 1100 metres on her home track at Toowoomba on March 13 which earned her a chance at a Saturday city race.
"We got her in terrific order off the Hawkes' and she's been an easy horse to manage," Maddysen Sears said.
"She trialled at Rosehill in Sydney before we got her and the owners thought she wasn't up to the grade down there.
"She's owned by Rob Crosby who has a lot of horses with the Hawkes' and we managed to get her through some clients of ours, Trevor and Barbara Davis, who race her now with Rob."
Sears is confident Dis Dah Wun can overcome an awkward barrier to stake a claim for the winter feature races.
"We've got a high opinion of her and if she wins, she'll be aimed for one of the Stakes races around 1200 metres in the winter," Sears said.
"We think 1200 metres is her best distance but she could stretch out to 1300 metres.
"She's had four starts for four wins for us and she deserves her chance in Saturday grade in town."
Sears rates the Tony Gollan-trained Ingear - a Michael Rod mount - as the main threat to Dis Dah Wun.
Ingear won first-up in January before finishing second in a Benchmark race at Eagle Farm on February 6.
At her last last start, she finished seventh to Wonderful Riri in a 1200-metre Class 4 on a heavy track on March 3.
Ingear has drawn barrier six while Dis Dah Wun has a wide draw in 10.
"It's a winnable race for Dis Dah Wun but she hasn't drawn the best," Sears said.
"She should lead but she doesn't have to and can a sit."
