2021 CHAIRMAN'S QUALITY - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The Chairman's Quality is a Group 2 race conducted by the Australian Turf Club at Royal Randwick.
The Chairman's Quality was first run in 1979 and was introduced to provide a key final lead-up race for horses entered for the Sydney Cup.
The Chairman's Quality has been run over 2600m since its inception except for the years 2000-2003 when the distance was 2400m.
The Chairman's Quality has been a Group 2 race since 2002 when it also succeeded the recently reborn AJC St Leger. From 1979-2001 it was Group 3.
The 2021 Chairman's Quality was run over 2600m at Randwick on the first day of The Championships for prizemoney of $300,000.
The Chairman's Quality is run under quality handicap conditions with a maximum topweight of 61kg.
The winner of the Chairman's Quality is exempt from ballot and penalty for the Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick.
Since 1979 the Chairman's Quality/Sydney Cup double has been won by eight horses in the same year – Marooned (1986), Major Drive (1987), King Aussie (1990), Linesman (1997), Henderson Bay (2002), No Wine No Song (2008), Jessicabeel (2010) and The Offer (2014).
Steel Phoenix (1999/2001), No Wine No Song (2007/2008) and Tremec (2013/2015) are the only dual winners of the Chairman's Quality.
Other notable winners of the Chairman's Quality include Bianco Lady, What A Nuisance, Round The World, Te Akau Nick, Pravda, Grey Song, Mummify, Once Were Wild and Big Duke.
The 2020 Chairman's Quality was won by Raheen House from Carif and Mirage Dancer.
