Forbidden Love is shooting to become the first filly in more than two decades to win the Doncaster Mile.

The last time Forbidden Love contested a G1 race over a mile, she was an immature filly still learning how to be a racehorse. 

When she takes her place in Saturday's Doncaster Mile (1600m), it will be as a more relaxed and mature three-year-old. 

It is those qualities co-trainer Michael Freedman is banking on when Forbidden Love attempts to become the first filly since Sunline in 1999 to win the prestigious feature. 

"The way she is relaxing in her races now, she is giving herself every chance to run the mile out," Freedman said. 

"Back in the spring when she ran third in the Empire Rose, she had to do a bit of work from the outside gate and she more or less led the field up and only went down by a narrow margin. 

"She is a little more versatile now than she was in the spring so from the draw (13), she should be ridden with a bit of cover and given every chance to run it out." 

Forbidden Love was borderline to gain a spot in the field and connections only found out she had scraped in when acceptances were declared on Tuesday. 

A dynamic winner of the Surround Stakes two starts ago, she was among the favourites for the Coolmore Classic but had a torrid run and finished unplaced. 

"She really didn't get any luck at any stage in the race. She met a lot of interference," Freedman said. 

"It was just a forget run. She has had a trial since then and trialled nicely and she seems to be going into Saturday's race in pretty good nick." 

Forbidden Love was an $18 chance with TAB fixed odds on Friday, with Mugatoo a popular $4 favourite.
