Lincoln Moore's Preview

RACE 1 - 12:06PM Happy 90th Birthday Colin Wilson Handicap (1200 METRES)

Calypso Reign is a progressive type, who was impressive first-up at Murray Bridge and solid behind Little Rich Boy on Cup Day. There was nothing wrong with his effort behind Mileva in the Manihi last time. He draws to get a perfect run and looks hard to beat. It's an even race and I think he's the one with the most upside. Designer Chef is going super, winning two of his past three here in Adelaide, but he's up in weight and has a sticky gate. Grand Scholar has very good speed and will make this a genuinely run affair. She has had two trials make and must be respected. MAGNA BELLA draws wide and she was racing at her best over a touch further at the back end of her last preparation. However, her best is definitely good enough in a race like this. HASTA LA WAR resumes here off a long break. He's going to need the run but look for him getting home strongly.

SELECTIONS: CALYPSO REIGN, Designer Chef, Grand Scholar.

RACE 2 - 12:41PM TAB Handicap (2025 METRES)

Tricky little staying race. Sky Horse wasn't beaten far at Group 3 level in Queensland last winter and finished off smartly last time at Moonee Valley behind Green Ivy. She looks ready to win. Dreamed is bursting to break through and she was strong late behind Farooq here last time. She's never won here but her best is certainly up to a race like this. Blue Ocean was very good behind Bondi Sands last time and that form line should hold up well here. HIGH 'N' DRY is a nice horse first-up for the Frew stable. He was a Flemington winner four starts back and his form early this campaign is very good for a race like this. He looks over the odds in the early market. EXALTED BEAST has won three of his past five but this looks a touch harder. KYSHAKA has talent but can be hard to catch, while OATH OF OMERTA looks an improver in a race like this and over the odds.

SELECTIONS: SKY HORSE, Dreamed, Blue Ocean

RACE 3 - 1:16PM Happy 60th Birthday Steve Hill Handicap (1200 METRES)

Highly Discreet had form in some good race last campaign and was sent out favourite second up behind Echoes In Eternity here on Adelaide Cup Day. The stable has an opinion of her, the blinkers go off from a sticky inside gate and her recent jump-out was good. River Twain was a good winner here three starts back when he showed speed and ran rivals ragged. His past two in Victoria have been good, the blinkers go on and he is very well weighted after the claim. Tradewind covered ground first-up from a spell and his form last time in was good. He maps well from a good gate and looks over the odds. GAZE GRISE showed speed to lead and gave nothing a look in first-up from a spell. He also maps well from the gate and should be in the finish. Peter Hardacre saddles up three runners here all with upside. THRILL KILL defeated Fighter to win his maiden and was well backed to win first-up at Warracknabeal. CHILL WITH TEEJAY looked good winning here first-up before getting back in the field behind Hypersonic last time. SPIN THE REWARD had specking when he raced away from rivals at a nice price first-up.

SELECTIONS: HIGHLY DISCREET, River Twain, Tradewind

RACE 4 - 1:51PM AAMI Dequetteville Stakes (1050 METRES)

James Cummings' Godolphin outfit saddles up two leading chances at the top of the market. Cloudy defeated Seradess (who won well here on Cup Day) before a good effort in good company at Bendigo when caught wide midfield with cover and finishing solidly over the last 100m. Todd Pannell and barrier two ticks a lot of boxes. Translation was heavily backed and got the job done back in class at Cranbourne. Previously she was tried down the Flemington straight. She has very good early speed, but the question will be can she run a strong 1050m? Bolsonaro is a nice horse who was brave last time in the Cinderella Stakes but is awkwardly drawn. She's probably looking for further but should appreciate a strong tempo. PRINCESS RAFFLES is another who is looking for further but will appreciate a strong tempo. PHILONIZE created a big impressive when blitzing rivals in a recent trial. That form has to come to race day but she does have an inside barrier. ISLES OF AVALON is on debut for Andrew Noblet and carries the Makybe Diva colours. She was good in a recent Bendigo jump-out.

SELECTIONS: CLOUDY, Bolsonaro, Translation

RACE 5 - 2:32PM Autumn Racing Carnival at Morphettville May 1-15 Handicap (1600 METRES)

Robe Bay is a nice mare who has always promised plenty. She won the Mortlake Cup three starts back and has had excuses her past couple. She's awkwardly drawn in gate nine but could be up to better races and looks well placed. Oh Mo was impressive coming off the speed to win at his first try at a mile last time in good company. He's always been a nice horse and must be given plenty of thought again here from an ideal barrier. Handsome Return has a handy record and was flying on the dirt last campaign. His return was very good, running third behind Designer Chef over 1250m, and the mile looks ideal. ALSVIOR maps well from barrier two and must be respected,

SELECTIONS: ROBE BAY, Oh Mo, Handsome Return

RACE 6 - 3:16PM 36° South Beef Handicap (1520 METRES)

Vapid made ground from a long way back between horses behind Neodium and probably should have finished closer. She looks better suited here out in trip and has appeal at her double-figure odds. Echo Boomer has been good since coming to SA and looked the winner before she was cut down late by behind Oh Mo last time. The wide gate and dropping back in trip should suit and she has solid claims. Bottom Line was good behind Outlaws Revenge two starts back and then OK behind Melba's Storm. He is drawn an outside gate but that might not be a bad thing. REYNOLDS is jumping sharply in class off the Battler's Bolt at Oakbank last week although he did win impressively and is drawn better than a stack of fancied runners. CROWN HARMONIUM maps well from gate four and was sent out favourite last time behind Oh Mo. He found some trouble but wasn't pushed out late which was noted in the stewards' report.

SELECTIONS: VAPID, Echo Boomer, Bottom Line

RACE 7 - 3:56PM Port Adelaide Guineas (1800 METRES)

Very good race. Chica Fuerte is a quality filly who won the G3 Ethereal at Caulfield in the spring. She was very good when running second behind Starelle in the Kewney two starts back before leading throughout to win the Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley last time. She'll be handy to the speed from her middle gate and will take some beating.  Let's Karaka Deel is a quality colt who was runner-up in the G2 Norman Robinson before running fifth behind Johnny Get Angry in the Victoria Derby back in the spring. He was good first-up from a spell at a mile, running second in the Mornington Guineas, and is sure to make his presence felt. Out to 1800m is a plus but he might be looking for a touch further. Ecumenical was impressive when ridden on speed last start. She looked in trouble before fighting off Perfect World. She draws an inside gate and if she can hold up is going to be in this race for a long way. IRONEDGE comes out of some strong Victorian races like the Stutt Stakes and Australian Guineas. He stormed home from a long way back when heavily backed at Sandown last time and out in trip is ideal. VALANETTI looks over the odds. She was caught wide and worse than midfield, but was strong through the line behind Ecumencial last time. She looks a nice staying filly who will eat up the extra ground. SALTPETER was good at Moonee Valley two runs back and then made ground last time. She is another who may be looking for more ground. CASINO SEVENTEEN hasn't done a lot wrong and backs up from a soft Oakbank win last weekend. Likewise ROYAL MILE was impressive at his first test up in class, beating Morty last time, and maps to get a nice run.

SELECTIONS: CHICA FUERTE, Let's Karaka Deel, Ecumenical

RACE 8 - 4:31PM Furphy Handicap (1200 METRES)

He's A Balter was climbing over the backs of rivals in the straight before getting into the clear and charging home to be narrowly beaten by Justica at Murray Bridge last start. If he'd been able to get clear air earlier I think he would have won. He's now with Will Clarken and gets his chance to atone. Midnight Storm has been going super for his new stable and deserved his latest win when too strong for Call Me Curtis. He's drawn a sticky gate but is versatile and this looks a winnable race again with the help of a claim. Stablemate TONY'S REWARD has been going super since coming to SA and was a winner on the Parks two runs back, before finishing strongly behind Skilled Bunch last time. He is also drawn awkwardly but must be respected. Northernero was a real eye-catching effort here last time after he was beaten for speed early but stormed home. This race might have a touch more depth. BOLT I AM can be hard to catch but was very good last time out and must be given some thought, while LADY DUNMORE should get a nice run from an inside gate.

SELECTIONS: HE'S A BALTER, Midnight Storm, Northernero

RACE 9 - 5:10PM Barossa Fine Foods Handicap (1100 METRES)

Appalachian was super impressive coming off the speed to run down rivals on the Parks track. Drawing out wide shouldn't disadvantage his racing pattern and he is a winner second-up. I'm keen to stick with him. Lunar Hero looked disappointing on face value at his Adelaide debut behind Huffington, but his previous Victorian form was very good. He was good at Moonee Valley and his Echuca win impressive. He can bounce back and will be right on speed. BRAZEN BRANDO has a good fresh record and draws an inside gate. Future Force is a former Snowden filly first-up for Will Clarken and perfectly drawn in barrier three. Former Victorian TRYGVE made very good ground at his SA debut but is drawn a touch wide.

SELECTIONS: APPALACHIAN, Lunar Hero, Future Force
