Some elite 3yos have taken out the Japanese classic in the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) run at Nakayama on Sunday.

Last year's race was very strong won by Contrail. Will the 2021 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) (1600m) at Nakayama on Sunday provide more top form?

2021 SATSUKI SHO (JAPANESE 2000 GUINEAS) - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) is a Grade 1 race run under Set Weight conditions for three year old colts and fillies at Nakayama racecourse conducted by the Japan Racing Association.

The Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) is run over 2000m. It was first run in 1939 and was won by Rock Park.

The Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) was worth JPY238,600,000 in 2021.

Nakayama racecourse is a right handed course with the start at the top of the straight.

The 2011 running was at Tokyo because of the impact of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

Some of the high profile winners of the 2000 Guineas have famous wins to their credit.

Possibly the most famous is Deep Impact. His exploits on the track were excellent losing only twice in 14 races with one of them being when long odds on when beaten in the Arc at Longchamp. His Guineas win was dominant by over two lengths.

His exploits off the track are even more amazing siring an extraordinary amount of winners of major races around the world including Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, England, France and Dubai.

Orfevre won his 2000 Guineas by a big margin and did same in the Derby. A year later he ran in a famous Arc when looking home before losing to Solemia.

Duramente was another to do the Guineas/Derby double.

The 2020 running saw a great clash between Contrail and Salios as the pair cleared out by 4L from a big field.

Mirco Demuro is the best performed recent jockey with four victories.

Plenty of trainers have two recent wins including Hideyuki Mori, Yasuo Ikee, Tsutomu Setoguchi and Yasutoshi Ikee.

The 2020 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) was won by Contrail from Salios and Galore Creek.
