It’s Now Or Never for Elvis At Hawkesbury

3 minute read

Looks Like Elvis is well placed to end an extended drought from the winner’s stall at Hawkesbury.

Probabeel, Kolding, Dreamforce and Think It Over.

They are all Group 1 horses and they appear in the recent formlines of Saturday's Hawkesbury Gold Cup contender Looks Like Elvis

Looks Like Elvis has finished within two lengths of each of them this season, giving trainer Jarrod Austin reason to be optimistic ahead of the gelding's quest for an overdue win.

"He's only been a length or two away from some quality Group One horses the whole way through," Austin said.

"It has been a little while between drinks for him so you can never get too confident, but he has been tested at the top level so he will appreciate the drop in class.

"He gets his chance to win on Saturday."

Looks Like Elvis has been out of the winner's stall for 19 months but he has been a consistent stakes performer since transferring to Austin's yard at the end of last season.

He finished a fine fifth to Probabeel in the Epsom Handicap and showed he had returned in good order this preparation to finish on the heels of the placegetters in the Liverpool City Cup and Ajax Stakes.

He raced ungenerously last start over 2000 metres but having been given a chance to recharge his batteries and with a distance drop to 1600 metres on Saturday, Looks Like Elvis appears well placed with 54kg, five kilos less than Villiers Stakes winner and top weight Greysful Glamour

"He went out for a week and freshened up after his last run. He's come back in really good order and he trialled nicely too the other day," Austin said.

Looks Like Elvis was an $11 chance with TAB fixed odds on Thursday with the Ron Quinton-trained Royal Celebration well supported in early markets as a $3.10 favourite.
