RANDWICK May 3

Inside A Grass; Good 4

16 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 8 x 1050m (3 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden); 6 x 737m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 2 3YO)

A feature of this session was affirmation by several youngsters of the talent they had shown in previous trials including a Deep Impact colt who cost $1.9 million.

The Richard Litt-trained PROFONDO, the $1.9 million colt sold at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, produced the standout trial win over 1050m, building on his first trial effort that we tabbed when he finished fourth at Hawkesbury on April 19.

He settled six lengths off the lead on the rails before he was eased through traffic to the outside on straightening. Once balanced he showed a classy turn of foot to sprint past the leaders, running strongly through the line under a hold in the fastest of the eight heats over 1050m (61.90; 34.14). His value and pedigree deems that Litt is taking his time getting him to the races but this trial is good evidence that he has more than his share of ability.

The boom unraced filly SATIN RIBBONS suffered her first defeat in four trials but little can be read into her second placing in her 1050m heat won by the experienced race winner VOLCANIC ROCK (62.59; 35.80). She led with ease as she has done in her previous three trial wins before she was throttled down by Tommy Berry over the last 300m, allowing VOLCANIC ROCK to sprint to the line under riding while she jogged to the post.

Other youngsters we have noted previously who were responsible for strong wins at this session were IN THE CONGO taking out his 1050m heat (63.61; 34.68) and TIGER OF MALAY bouncing off his last start failure in G1 company to win a fast 737m heat (43.11; 33.07).

PRIME STAR (62.97; 34.06) and CHARRETERA (63.19; 34.14) looked in good form winning their 1050m heats were while the lightly raced Redoute's Choice 3YO CADENABBIA opened up for an impressive 4.3 lengths win in his 1200m heat (73.73; 34.79.

ANCHORAGE is an unraced 2YO filly by Capitalist to keep an eye on after her sharp win in her 737m heat (43.46; 33.40). The 3YO heats were won in fast times by STOICAL (42.70; 34.04) and STORMBORN (42.68; 33.12), a strong filly Mark Newnham has inherited from the Lindsay Park stable. The form in her heat could be a solid guide as the well performed LA FORET ran home for a good second while BALLISTIC LOVER and SHOTGUN ALLI also took the eye.
