Bull Signals Her Arrival In Tasmania

3 minute read

Victoria has established what could be an unbeatable lead in this year’s National Apprentice Race Series (NARS) after talented youngster Tatum Bull delivered the goods aboard Signal Hill in the second-round heat in Hobart on Sunday.

Victorian apprentice Alana Kelly earned top points in the first heat at Murray Bridge in South Australia last Wednesday week winning aboard Bold I Am.

It might not have been the prettiest ride by Bull on Sunday, but she secured the desired result.

"I am thrilled to win this race, especially for the owners who have been trying for a while to win a race with the mare," Bull said.

"The plan was to go forward and try to get in somewhere with cover but when that didn't work out, I just tried to get her to relax and she did, but she kept on finding in the home straight."

Signal Hill (Star Witness-Tafelberg) was on a seven-day back up having finished fourth in Devonport over 1880m a week earlier in which she led but faded late.

"The mare pulled up really well from the Devonport run so I told the owner that we might as well run her in Hobart in the Apprentices race and we were lucky enough to draw Tatum (Bull) because she did a great job," White said.

"When she found herself caught wide and unable to slot in, she stayed cool and kept the mare in a good rhythm and she was absolutely jogging entering the home straight."

Signal Hill is owned by Geoff Barrett and he was elated with the win, especially as $26 was offered about the mare's winning chances when betting first opened on Saturday.
