RANDWICK May 13

A Grass; Soft 7

10 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 6 x 1040m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 1 3YO); 3 x 740m (1 Open; 2 2YO)

Brisbane-bound stars SAVATIANO, RONDINELLA and OLMEDO stood out in their open heats while the Snowden stable have yet another unraced 2YO who could be a winter find.

SAVATIANO (James Cummings): Freshened since her All Aged Stakes second and did all the Godolphin stable would have expected to win her 1040m heat. Settled off the pace and oozed class down the running with no pressure applied by Hugh Bowman as she strode clear for a soft 1.5 lengths win. The only knock was her slow time (65.32; 36.15), well outside the quicker times recorded in other 1040m heats.

RONDINELLA (John O'Shea): The Sydney Cup runner-up took the eye extending strongly over the last 100m to finish third in the 1200m heat (72.86; 36.36). It was a lovely tick over trial by this classy staying mare and no doubt she will be heading north with the Brisbane Cup as her target.

OLMEDO (Annabel Neasham): The French 2000 Guineas winner looks in good order to go on from his last start Listed win in Brisbane judging by the way he worked through the line to finish second in the fastest 1040m heat (62.97; 35.30). He had plenty to offer over the last 200m when he ranged up to the leader but Jason Collett kept him under wraps and only asked him to extend late where his talent was obvious.

PENCILED (Peter & Paul Snowden): Yep, pencil this youngster down as a hot prospect as he looked a class above his rivals winning his debut trial over 1040m (64.36; 36.53) under the kindest ride from Tommy Berry. He's a strong colt with a beautiful action typical of the Written Tycoon breed and couldn't have been more impressive travelling easily three and four deep before taking control of his heat over the last 200m.

The fastest 2YO heat win over 1040m was recorded by STICK TO YOUR GUNS (63.10; 36.11), an unraced Capitalist gelding and previously noted after a good placing when he trialled at Warwick Farm on April 30. However he was ridden up over the last 200m with the runner-up VERNE, a Snitzel youngster we had listed off his good trials earlier in the season, looking the part as he finished off strongly with a lot more in reserve.

The robust front runner JAZZLAND has been hard to follow at times but he looked in top order to resume after an impressive win in the 1200m heat. Suspect he is being primed for the Grafton carnival where he won the South Grafton Cup last year.

Class mare EMERALDS steamed home from last for third in the 1040m heat won by SAVATIANO, an effort that indicates she is back on track after a couple of autumn carnival failures.

STOICAL, a lightly raced provincial maiden winner, showed good speed to hold off OLMEDO in the fastest 1040m heat while the maidens SHOTGUN ALLI and KITTYHAWK FLYER are certain to be fancied to win races in the near future after smart wins in their heats.

SHOTGUN ALLI surged to the line for an easy 2.5 lengths in the 3YO heat over 1040m (64.46; 36.61) while the More Than Ready filly KITTYHAWK FLYER, placed in three of her five runs, won her 740m heat (44.76; 33.93) with something in hand.

HUESCA, a Not A single Doubt colt having his first trial, recorded the fastest 740m heat win (43.76; 34;09) with a strong win from off the pace. MURA MURA, responsible for good placings in her early race starts, was not asked to extend finishing a close second in the slower fillies heat (44.15; 34.29) won by the well-performed TOTAL BABE.
