Rebadged as The Might And Power, previously the Neds Caulfield Stakes, the name change pays homage to the horse who tore up the turf and dominated the home straight, winning the 1997 Caulfield Cup by 7 ½ lengths and the Caulfield Stakes in 1998. The Might And Power will again be sponsored by partner Neds in 2021.

In another update to the 2021 Caulfield Cup Carnival, G1 The Thousand Guineas (1600m) will be transferred to the Wednesday for the first time since 2013. With Group 1 races programmed across all three days of the Carnival, Melbourne Racing Club anticipates larger attendance to the mid-week feature and a consistent three days of quality racing.

MRC Executive Director of Racing and Operations, Jake Norton welcomes the updates to the Carnival and the celebration of Might and Power.

"Throughout our racing calendar, we recognise many horses who have achieved greatness and left their mark on the Heath. It's only befitting we add Might And Power to the honour roll and immortalise the horse in the Carnival's fixture," he said.

Of the new scheduling of The Thousand Guineas; "Having The Thousand Guineas headline the day will reinvigorate proceedings on and off track and we're hopeful of seeing continued engagement and excitement with increased field sizes and attendance trackside," said Norton.

The rebrand of the Neds Caulfield Stakes continues to add to the incredible legacy Might And Power has left behind, one his owner Nick Moraitis knows all too well.

"Might And Power had a great association with Caulfield, and it was always a highlight of mine to come to the racecourse to watch him race. It's a nice touch from the Club to rename the Stakes - he's cemented himself as part of Caulfield's history," said Moraitis.

Final programming for the 2021 Caulfield Cup Carnival and Melbourne Racing Club's spring racing will be announced over the coming weeks.
