Trinder Set To Strike With Talented Three-Year-Olds

3 minute read

Trainer Adam Trinder will saddle up a half-dozen of his stable tenants at the Devonport meeting on Sunday with his two three-year-olds Michbar and Distanza the most likely to find the winner’s circle.

Michbar returned to racing after a bleeding attack with a brilliant win in a class one over 1150 metres two weeks ago and he steps into a benchmark 66 handicap over 1150 metres that, while not an ideal step for gelded son of Whittington, he does go into the race in top order.

Trinder was aiming Michbar at the 3YO Cup after he won his maiden in Devonport in August last year, but he bled at his subsequent outing that required a mandatory three-month ban from racing.

He was very pleased with how Michbar emerged from his first-up assignment and suggested the outing will have done him the world of good.

Brendon Mccoull will again take the sit and from barrier two he is still likely to start a warm favourite.

"Michbar is probably in an unsuitable race in terms of the weight he has to carry, but it is what it is and we will be hoping for the best," Adam Trinder said.

Distanza hasn't started since winning his maiden in Launceston in November last year.

The gelded son of Needs Further has been to the trials only once for a fourth of five at Longford late last month, beaten six lengths.

Hardly the trial form to encourage punters to engage but there isn't a lot of depth in the line-up, so the gelding could still start favourite.

Trinder will saddle up Cheeky One and Tassie Miss in the Goodstone Group Maiden (1350m) with Cheeky One likely to be the shorter-priced of the two given her last-start second to Gee Gee Baracus three weeks ago.

Gee Gee Baracus has franked the form by winning a class one at his next outing over the same trip.

"I think Cheeky One has found her winnable race and I would be quite disappointed if she didn't win or at least finish top three."

Tassie Miss (x Magnus) was a first-up fifth behind Gee Gee Baracus and Cheeky One and over four lengths from the winner but she is a likely improver.

Magic Waler has been costly for punters this preparation as he was well backed in three of his five outings for no return and an outside gate won't help his chances on Sunday in the Thai Imperial BM 60 over 1650m (race 6).

Sanction King is Trinder's last runner for the day in race seven, Nova Design and Print BM78 handicap over 1350m.

The gelding receives some weight relief as he is racing out of his grade and a decent gate (4) also will enhance his winning chances.
