Morton's Forgotten Horse In Raconteur Stakes

By any measure, Dan Morton has enjoyed a successful three-year-old season.

His Ascot summer carnival hit a peak with Kissonallforcheeks, Snickerdoodledandy and Kallaroo.

Kissonallforcheeks took out the Lee Steere Classic (1400m) and the WA Breeders Classic (1400m).

Snickerdoodledandy defeated Kissonallforcheeks in the Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) to give Morton a race quinella.

Kallaroo scored a career-best victory in the Fairetha Stakes (1400m), outpointing Western Empire, a subsequent WA Derby (2400m) champion in April.

With Kissonallforcheeks spelling and Snickerdoodledandy now in Melbourne, Morton hopes Kallaroo can continue his three-year-old momentum.

By Geisel Park stallion All American, Kallaroo will chase a second three-year-old feature race when he contests Saturday's Listed Raconteur Stakes (1400m) at Belmont.

Unplaced in three runs his preparation, Kallaroo is a $34 outsider, but Morton doesn't see it that way and believes the gelding has got under the radar of punters.

"I had a look at his price and think it's off the mark," Morton told The Races WA.

"In my mind I think he is over the odds.

"His work on Tuesday was very good  and Brad (Parnham) gave a positive report.

"This is the race he's been set for and I'm happy with where he's at.

"I have full respect for the rest of the field, but I think he's the forgotten horse."

Kallaroo carries 57kg for Brad Parnham in the Raconteur Stakes and has drawn barrier four.

After lumping 59.5kg, 58kg and 60kg this campaign, Morton believes the set weights and penalties scale of the Raconteur will help Kallaroo.

"He is not a big horse and carrying big weight has an impact," Morton said.

"The set weight and penalties will be a help."

Brad Parnham will chase a third Raconteur Stakes victory aboard Kallaroo.

He posted back-to-back wins on All Gee (2016) and Variation (2017).

Graceful Girl, backing up for trainers Grant and Alana Williams, is the TAB's $2.70 favorite in the Raconteur Stakes, tightening from $3.20.

Kallaroo has eased from $21 to $34.
