Neil Evans' Tips For Wagga - Friday, 4th June 2021

3 minute read

Track is a Soft 5 with the rail out 6m from the 1400m to the winning post; True the remainder.

Racecourse : Wagga
Racecourse : Wagga Picture: Murrumbidgee Turf Club

Race 1 (11:45am) WDF PROFESSIONAL LAMONT CLASSIC - 2YO HANDICAP, 1300m

We start with the youngsters and keen on resuming Astern gelding 1. Zadig ($3.50 on TAB) who has trialled okay and the only winner in the race.

Dangers: The Factor gelding 2. Chiranjeev ($2.80 favourite) was solid through the line on debut at Kembla when specked at a big price and this is a little easier. Keep safe improving provincial Denman gelding 5. Densaur ($4.60) who draws well for his third start, while Super Easy filly 6. Easy Rosie ($3.40) made a sound debut on the synthetic at Canberra and leading country rider sticks.

How to play it: Zadig to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (12:20pm) KRISTOPHER GRAYDON JEWELLERS MAIDEN PLATE, 1600m

Up to the mile at set weights augurs well for progressive Canberra three-year-old 7. Toretto ($1.28 fav) who looks to have this at his mercy third-up off a long break from a good draw. Charged home to beat all bar the winner in a handy race at Albury and will go around well into odds-on.

Dangers: Improving local three-year-old 6. Lumber Dream ($3.60) is overdue for an even slice of luck and looks the only danger third-up. Never got a real crack at them resuming here before trapped wide at Albury in a deeper maiden - blinkers come off. Include in exotics 10. Lady Animalia ($21) who is hard fit and draws a soft gate and 2. Epizeel ($15) who can improve sharply back on the turf.

How to play it: Toretto to win and trifecta 7/2,6,10/2,6,10. Odds and Evens: Split a special

Race 3 (12:55pm) LADEX CONSTRUCTION GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1000m

Tricky sprint with a few on debut and the likely short-priced favourite drawn off the track. Lightly raced four-year-old 1. River Mac ($4.40) resumes for an underrated stable and can strike if he leaves the barriers well enough. Kept finding the line late in three runs at Canberra last prep, despite being slow to begin and will be strong late from a low draw.

Dangers: Home track three-year-old Dissident filly 6. Secret Disclosure ($2 fav) is an obvious big watch after trouncing the field in a trial on the Riverside Track. Looks way above average but a tough draw on debut. Local three-year-old 3. Last War ($4.80) held his ground okay first-up here and blinkers have been added. Don't discard Albury filly 7. Dissmagic ($51) resuming off a long break from the inside draw at huge odds. Gets a 3kg claim and has been given two very quiet trials, while 10. Coin Drop ($10) is a knock-out chance down sharply in weight third-up.

How to play it: River Mac each-way and box exacta 1,3,6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 (1:35pm) FERNDALE DISTRIBUTORS 3YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE, 1300m

Home track three-year-old 4. Nic's Hero ($2.80 fav) returns off a smart trial win and even more advantaged on a soft surface.

Dangers: Progressive Victorian mare 11. Kore ($4.80) got further back than anticipated second-up at Albury off a long break, but finished hard and looks ready to peak with a stronger and more experienced rider going on. Improving filly 8. Denarena ($15) didn't have any luck when it counted second-up in that same race and should relish getting out over more ground, while Wodonga filly 6. Bring A Dame ($6.50) can challenge fifth-up getting out to a more suitable trip.

How to play it: Nic's Hero to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 (2:10pm) QUICKSKIP BM 58 HCP-HEAT OF THE WAGGA STAYERS SERIES, 2000m

Another heat of the Wagga Stayers Series and typically there are plenty of chances. Tough Canberra four-year-old 5. Casino Time ($2.80) only has a modest win rate from 30 starts but has continued hitting the line this prep, and can peak at a distance he's already won twice over.

Dangers: Improving colt 9. Lambardi ($5.50) had been in the money in four straight runs as the distances have risen until outclassed in a stronger provincial Class 1. Draws to get plenty of cover back in the field and this is weaker. Canberra five-year-old and last-start synthetic winner 2. Mohahna ($3.70) can be hard to catch but she's hard fit and treated okay at the weights after the rider's 2kg claim. Keeping safe, improving four-year-old 11. Brennaman ($8) who made up late ground on the synthetic last start and drops sharply in weight.

How to play it: Casino Time to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 (2:50pm) IRON JACK BM 58 HCP-HEAT OF THE WAGGA STAYERS SERIES, 2000m

Take two in another heat of the Stayers Series and keen on progressive Albury three-year-old 5. Tullaghan ($2.90 fav) who can make it two straight from four starts. Swept home here for a dominant maiden win over the mile, and dawn to get good cover off the speed.

Dangers: Local four-year-old import 1. Kitzbuhel ($4) was okay first-up in his first Australian run and will improve lengths getting out to this trip having bolted in his maiden over much further late last year in the UK. Capable five-year-old 6. Saint Henry ($4) has only one win but finally gets out over more ground deep into the prep, with weight relief for a tougher race. Include in wider exotics Victorian filly 10. Jumpin' Jaguar ($17) off her maiden win while Canberra five-year-old 14. Pride Of Kalaru ($8) has been placed in three of his last four and loomed to win on the synthetic at home last start.

How to play it: Tullaghan to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 (3:25pm) RAINE & HORNE WAGGA WAGGA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP, 1000m

Moderate affair over the sprint trip. Like the value first-up about lightly raced and talented Canberra mare 6. Red Kanzi ($5 equal fav) from a soft draw. Hasn't publicly trialled but put two impressive off-speed wins together through summer and normally has plenty to offer on the fresh side.

Dangers: Tough seven-year-old 3. Revolver ($5 eq fav) hasn't won for a while but rarely puts in a bad one. Has been placed in three of his last four runs around this distance and the leading country jockey takes over. Victorian four-year-old 1. Northernero ($6.50) returns from three runs in deeper company at Morphettville and big weight has been offset with a 3kg claim. Home track seven-year-old 5. Lennox Road ($7) stuck on strong for a tough first-up win but rises in weight and second-up form is not as flash. Watch the betting on Albury filly 12. Ex Lady ($13) second-up, while keeping safe Albury filly 13. Tectonic Shift ($10) who charged through the middle to score on debut and carries 1.5kg less for this tougher test.

How to play it: Red Kanzi each-way and first four 1,3,6/1,3,5,6,12,13/1,3,5,6,12,13/1,3,5,6,12,13. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 (4:05pm) BRUCE MCMAH CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1200m

Several chances in this one too. Hallowed Crown four-year-old 4. Clearly Regal ($5.50) hasn't won for a long time and resumes with no official trials, but has plenty of ability. Will appreciate being drawn to get to the outside on a big track and the soft surface is a further plus.

Dangers: Improving three-year-old 3. Choccy Gaf ($2.40 fav) found the line well first-up in a weak BM 58. Draws to get a good run and is already a second-up winner. Expecting a big first-up run from four-year-old 2. Packer's Bond ($9) who can come to hand quickly, while stablemate and first-up Albury maiden winner 11. Vinnie's Girl ($11) is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Clearly Regal each-way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 9 (4:40pm) D & S TABER ELECTRICAL & SOLAR BENCHMARK 74 HANDICAP , 1400m

Best race of the day saved for last. Tough six-year-old 2. Black Wand ($10) is well placed and way over the odds. Wasn't beaten far in the tougher Country Cup at Scone after flashing home to win over a mile here.

Dangers: Talented Canberra mare 11. Temoin Chaud ($3.80 fav) boxed on in the stronger Queen Of The South here, has a sound record at this track and gets right back down in the weights. Was scratched from Wyong on Thursday to run here. Must respect last-start synthetic winner 6. Mad As Zariz ($4.60) who is versatile in distance, has a near 25% win rate from 32 starts and drops significantly in weight while expecting an improved run from local five-year-old 7. Sizzleonthebridge ($7) over a longer journey and back on the turf.

How to play it: Black Wand each-way and trifecta 2,11/2,6,7,11/2,6,7,11
Odds and Evens: Split
