A $600 purchase with a breathing problem has taken his prize money to in excess of $250,000 with a strong win at Flemington

The former member of the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace team, Curran was purchased by mother-and-daughter training team Lyn Tolson and Leonie Proctor before he had raced.

After wins at Pakenham and Caulfield, Curran added Saturday's VRC Member William Capell Sprint (1100m) to his record.

And to make it a family affair, Curran was ridden to victory by Proctor's son, apprentice Matthew Cartwright, who brought up his 100th victory aboard the gelding.

Sent off the $3.90 favourite, Curran raced to a three-quarter length victory from Pioneer River ($13) with All Of Brighton ($5.50) a neck away third.

In seven starts for Tolson and Proctor, Curran has finished out of the money only once, on debut when fifth at Stony Creek, before registering three wins and three seconds.

After winning at Caulfield on April 24, Curran ran second to Ayrton at that track on May 8 and Proctor said they had considered starting the gelding over 1400m on Saturday.

"But he had that little bit too long between runs," Proctor said.

"We'll just take him home and see how he pulls up. It's his first preparation so he's doing a great job."

Cartwright said Curran was a great story although he can little credit for it.

He said he had a lovely run through Saturday's race and Curran let down like a good horse.

"He's going super this horse and I can't believe he keeps winning and hopefully he can keep progressing," Cartwright said.

"He really let go like I thought he would and being the first time down the straight, I thought he'd do that.
