Troy Corstens is looking forward to The Astrologist returning to his home track at Flemington and getting back into winning.

Not that The Astrologist is going poorly, it is just Corstens, who trains in partnership with his father Leon, thinks the Flemington straight 1200m course suits The Astrologist.

The five-year-old son of Zoustar runs in the Group 3 Aurie's Star Handicap (1200m), looking to win for the third time in as many starts at Flemington.

His only "miss" in recent outings was at Caulfield last start when he dead-heated for third, beaten around half-a-length, in the Listed Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on July 24.

"I thought he was really good first time at weight-for-age around a bend," Corstens told RSN.

"But he seems to go that one pace down the straight and when you think he's had enough he finds that little bit extra.

"He loves it."

How far The Astrologist can press on into the spring, Corstens is unsure.

Corstens said the sprinter had been in work for some time, but by the same token was not showing any signs of having "trained off".

Depending on his performance on Saturday, Corstens is looking at either starting The Astrologist in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington on September 11 or the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield the following week.

"There are so many good races coming up," Corstens said.

"I'd love to get him to the Rupert Clarke, down in the weights over 1400 metres around Caulfield

"He'd probably get in with 54 or 55 kilos, I'd say, or even a race like the Bobbie Lewis could be suitable.

"Hopefully he can run really well in the Aurie's Star on Saturday and then we'll try and raise the bar a little bit more."
