On paper, it would not appear Perth galloper Red Can Man has a lot going against him when he steps up in trip at Flemington

Having his first try over 1410m in Victoria, Red Can Man has drawn the widest alley in the VRC Season Premiere Plate on Saturday.

As the highest-rated runner in the handicap contest, Red Can Man has also been burdened with 60kg, but that will be offset with the 3kg claim for apprentice Madison Lloyd, a two-time winner at the track.

Trainer David Brideoake is looking forward to stepping Red Can Man up to Saturday's journey, knowing the gelding has good statistics, two wins and two placings from five starts, at the trip in Perth.

Red Can Man has had three starts for Brideoake since arriving in Melbourne earlier in the year.

After running out of steam first-up over 1100m at Flemington in June, Red Can Man was successful in the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on July 10 before a midfield finish in the Listed Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) two weeks later.

"I think he takes a bit of racing to get fit," Brideoake said.

"He's a big strong horse and we just need to get him to relax in running.

"I think the seven (furlongs) will suit him as it's suited him previously and I'm confident with the horse's condition."

The major concern for Brideoake on Saturday is the state of the track, rated a Soft 5 on Friday.

Brideoake said he would not like to see the track worse than that.

Red Can Man likes to race forward and although drawn wide, Brideoake does not see a change in the gelding's racing pattern on Saturday.

"He's drawn a bit of a wide gate, but that won't matter," Brideoake said.

"We won't change his racing pattern. He might be wide for a while, but he'll be thereabouts."
