Not Over For Clairvoyance

3 minute read

Top trainer Darren McAuliffe has not given up on glamour filly Clairvoyance making a return to racing.

The bold-striding daughter of Nostradamus underwent surgery last week after sustaining a baffling leg injury at Darren Mcauliffe's Baldivis stables in April.

In an accident that left McAuliffe and veterinarians puzzled, Clairvoyance is thought to have struck a rail that caused bleeding from her knee and tendon sheaths.

A brilliant winner in five of her six races, Clairvoyance's career appeared in grave jeopardy, but a positive report from veterinarians has lifted McAuliffe's confidence.

"She's back home recovering after her operation last week," McAuliffe said.

"They found she had torn a ligament in her knee.

"As amazing as it sounds it's the best outcome we could have hoped for.

"Before the operation we were fearing the worst.

"She's back home now in the stables recovering and the hard work starts.

"She'll have to be confined to a small area for a month which will be difficult.

"Then it will be up to me to earn my keep as a trainer to bring her back.

"It's going to be a long and slow process, but there is light at the end of the tunnel."

Meanwhile McAuliffe says Solaia and No Surrender will take alternate paths after their unplaced performances in the Raconteur Stakes (1400m).

Solaia, first up since winning the Natasha Stakes (2200m) last March, ran sixth in the field of nine.

No Surrender faded to last after sitting in second position to the turn.

"Solaia will go to the paddock and come back for the Railway Stakes (1600m) and Ascot carnival," McAuliffe said.

"I don't think she is really a Belmont horse.

"I'm not sure what happened with No Surender.

"He's better than what he showed.

"We'll scope him, but we will press ahead with his campaign."

McAuliffe also said The Velvet King was in top order ahead of Saturday's Group 3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m).
