An unfortunate race day incident interrupted the career of Sunborn and trainer Edward Cummings is hoping the filly can make up for lost time.

Sunborn will resume in The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday, her first appearance since July last year when she received severe interference in a race day fall that claimed the life of rival runner Hot 'N' Hazy.

Cummings' filly suffered a fracture to her near-fore splint bone in the scrimmage and required surgery, so it has been a slow road back to the races.

"We've nursed her back and we've got her to the trials and she has trialled well," Cummings said.

"Our plan was to aim at some of the lower-tier stakes races in the autumn, but we just had to be as patient as possible to ensure she was right, knowing she had ability and it was just a matter of getting her right.

"We think she is a stakes quality filly."

A daughter of under-rated sire Casino Prince, Sunborn won her debut at Newcastle as a juvenile and was competitive against some smart two-year-olds of her generation, finishing fifth to Wild Ruler in the 2019 Inglis Nursery and filling the same position behind Dame Giselle in the 2020 Reisling Stakes.

She won the most recent of her two barrier trials at Rosehill and gets into Saturday's race on the 52kg minimum with Andrew Adkins to ride.

She will be Cummings' only runner at Rosehill after the early scratching of Obiri from the Sharp Extensive IT Handicap (1800m).

Cummings recently celebrated his first Group 1 win when Duais claimed the Queensland Oaks during the Brisbane winter carnival.
