Any rain a bonus for Aidensfield at Flemington

3 minute read

With a liking for soft tracks, Ben Hayes would like to see some rain ahead of Aidensfield running at Flemington.

With a run under the belt and an ideal barrier draw, Ben Hayes is looking forward to saddling Aidensfield at Flemington
No stranger to success at headquarters when in partnership with his father David and cousin Tom Dabernig, Hayes is now in charge at Lindsay Park with his younger brother JD.
The pair is slowly making a name for themselves having prepared four winners in less than two weeks being at the helm and will have three runners at Flemington on Saturday.
Ben Hayes sees Aidensfield as their chance of a breakthrough win at Flemington when the filly runs in the Rivette Series Final (1400m).
Aidensfield resumed at Flemington on June 19, finishing seventh in the Listed A R Creswick Stakes (1200m) behind outsider Free To Move, beaten less than a length.
"She raced a little bit fresh being first-up but with that run under the belt she looks to have improved," Hayes said.
"Her final piece of work leading into Saturday's race was excellent and I think barrier one will suit her. She should be able to bounce and be in a prominent position."
Hayes is also heartened at the weather forecast where showers are expected on Friday and Saturday.
Aidensfield won her first two starts, in May last year, on rain-affected ground, and Lindsay Park thought enough of the filly for her to run in stakes company during the spring.
She figured in the money in her first two runs, both in Listed company, before finding the Group 1 fillies too strong in the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield in October.
Hayes explained Aidensfield did not come up during the autumn where she jarred up on firm ground.
"This time in she's sound," Hayes said.
"There's a couple of showers around on Friday and Saturday and a little bit of give in the track is always helpful for her."
