Following successive minor placings, Grand Piano will be out to land a knockout punch at Rosehill.

John Thompson is focusing on the positive aspects of Grand Piano's recent form, despite the fact it has come with it frustrations.

Since reuniting with his original trainer, the gelding has finished fifth at Listed level and posted back-to-back second placings at Eagle Farm and Randwick, going down narrowly both times.

He was beaten a head by Profit in Brisbane and a short head by New Arrangement, who he meets four kilos better on Saturday.

Thompson has been rapt with the efforts but admits successive defeats have been hard to stomach, particularly after tipping the horse to his owner.

"He will run here at Rosehill on Saturday and he seems to be back in good form. He's going super," Thompson said.

"I've tipped him to the owner his last two runs and he has just gone down at good odds. It's a bit frustrating, it's been an inch both times.

"But we're just happy the horse is back in form and racing well."

Grand Piano will carry top weight of 60.5kg in Saturday's Lynette Lamphee Memorial Handicap (1500m) and enjoys wet conditions, having won half of his eight starts on soft and heavy tracks.

Nash Rawiller will partner the four-year-old, who is a $6 chance, with Canasta an early $3.60 TAB fixed odds favourite.

Grand Piano will be one of three Rosehill runners for Thompson, who will also start lightly-raced filly Zariya in the opening race and Embeller in the Ranvet Handicap (1100m).

Zariya steps up to Saturday grade after posting a midweek victory at Canterbury while Embeller will be chasing her first metropolitan success.
