Former city galloper primed for success at Port Macquarie (Sat)

3 minute read

With the benefit of recent placings under her belt, Vaporetto is poised for a successful return to the winner’s circle in the Caroma Class 1 Handicap at Port Macquarie on Saturday.

The flashy chestnut has been a wonderful money-spinner for connections since being transferred from the Richard and Michael Freedman stable and the early promise was soon realised when scoring with great authority over Fused Magic at Port last year.

Popular Coffs Harbour trainer, Brett Bellamy, has the training duties of the filly who has impressive bloodlines as her dad, Ferlax, was responsible for victory in a Group 1 Australian Guineas.

Vaporetto has raced particularly well in recent times and her recent second when beaten narrowly by Pipe Dreams at Kempsey a fortnight ago indicates a win is not far away.

The main danger in the event centres around the Dwayne Schmidt trained mare, Therapy, with the stable enjoying a great deal of success while Impulse Control has strong credentials for a forward showing.

Semifox wasn't beaten far at her most recent start at Grafton and the John Sprague trained filly looks well-placed for victory in the opening event while the stable has definite chances later in the program with Em Em D'ar contesting the Maiden Plate and Crowned Empress going around in the final race.

Runyoo will benefit from the apprentice claim allocated to Jasper Franklin when contesting the Benchmark 50 Handicap with the Charge Forward gelding handling the heavy conditions when successful at Coffs Harbour a month ago.

It would be wise to forget the Brett Dobson trained gelding's most recent effort at Ballina when assessing the chances of Runyoo in the second event.

The Port racing complex continues to be a COVID-19 safe venue and it is imperative that all guidelines and procedures are to be followed to the letter. All staff, patrons and essential personnel are required to always wear face masks while on the premises, except when eating or drinking, and this is for both indoor and outside areas.

Social distancing rules will be strictly enforced, and all patrons and staff are encouraged to continue safe hand washing practices and general responsible conduct.

If you live or have visited a designated lock down area or have cold or flu like symptoms, such as a cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath or runny nose, even if these are mild, you will not be permitted to the track, and you should get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible.

If you have booked inside the Ivan Livermore Stand or Clydesdale Room, you must remain seated at your table throughout the day, except for food and beverage purchases, wagering, restroom requirements and viewing the races.

Strong demand has resulted in the Ivan Livermore Stand tickets being booked out, but there are plenty of great viewing positions available with comprehensive dining, refreshment and wagering services in full operations.

Port Macquarie Race Club accepts your Dine & Discover Vouchers at the Bistro on raceday and a fantastic $25 meal selection is available. General admission tickets are available on raceday and further details are available by contacting the club on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au

The club is delighted to continue a wonderful relationship with Fishers Plumbing for their annual race day and are greatly appreciative of their continued support. As part of the day's sponsorship, races are also named in honour of Rinnai, Rheem, Caroma, Abey and Dux Hot Water throughout the afternoon.

The circuit is holding up well for the moment with club officials' hopeful for a break in the current wet weather conditions as the race day approaches. Punters will be able to follow all the action of the local program together with full coverage of supporting programs from around Australia through the screens of Sky Racing with comprehensive trackside wagering facilities available.
