Gelding operation does the job for impressive two-year-old winner.

A gelding operation has done the trick with the Snowden-trained King Of Sparta as he broke his maiden at Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday.

The son of I Am Invincible had run fourth in the Group 2 Silver Slipper and the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes earlier in his career.

But it was the Harry Angel At Darley Plate where the two-year-old would notch up his first victory by 0.24 lengths.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden said the team will assess their options before making a decision on King Of Sparta's next assignment.

"Obviously the first and second horse are going to be destined for bigger things hopefully, as far as our bloke is concerned, that's for sure," he said.

"It was good to see him tough it out and put a win on the board.

"I think we'll just sit back and take stock.

"I know he'll pull up well because he was pretty well forward for today, so there's no issue there.

"It's just a matter of placing him in the right races now."

King Of Sparta jumped with the field but settled in the midfield as the pack sorted their order out.

Regan Bayliss got the gelding into clear air at the top of the straight, as he ambled up to the leaders with 400m to travel.

He showed a dashing turn of foot as Bayliss pushed the button, fighting off his rivals to get the win by a quarter of a length.

Bayliss said gelding the son of I Am Invincible proved the difference today.

"That was a key operation," he said.

"Obviously he showed glimpses of ability when he was a colt, he's just come back a lot more focussed and relaxed.

"He can be known for going a little bit fierce, but he actually relaxed lovely for me today.

"I think he beat a pretty smart one in Annabel's (Neasham) horse, who I had a lot of respect for of that trial.

"He should go on with that."
