Victoria's longest race for two-year-old's is set to see the debut of the Phillip Stokes-trained Think Bold.

The son of Written Tycoon is likely to run in the Byerley Handicap (1800m) at Flemington on Saturday, a race that provides the winner a ballot exemption into the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington in October.

Not that Stokes is looking that far ahead at this stage and is only interested in seeing what Think Bold can produce on debut.

Think Bold is from Bashful Girl, a sister to former champion jumper Bashboy, and also Strikeline, the dam of champion sprinter Nature Strip

While Bashful Girl has produced horses that have relished a longer journey as well as those at a shorter trip, Think Bold fits into the former category.

Stokes said he would wait for final acceptances on Wednesday before making a final decision on whether to start, but added Think Bold was more than likely to run.

The only time Think Bold has been seen in public was at Traralgon when finishing fourth in a 950m trial on July 7.

"We were just trying to find a maiden for him over a mile," Stokes said.

"He's a big, lanky, staying sort of horse by Written Tycoon that trialled at Traralgon. He finished that off OK and we thought this is not that much harder than a maiden.

"He's come on from his trial, which he had to, plus it will be on the big track which will suit.

"One of the owners has the mare, so if he happened to run into a place then it will be 'happy days'.

We're not going there with any expectations, but it's somewhere to kick him off and we'll get to see him under race conditions."
